One
of the key goals of the Memorial City District is to improve access to and mobility in Memorial City. Chiefly, the District does this by working with other governments such as the City of Houston, the Memorial City
Redevelopment Authority/TIRZ 17, TxDOT and others to advocate for road, traffic signal, transit and other mobility improvements. The District also is initiating some efforts on its own to improve mobility. One of these projects is evaluating “access management” in the District. Access management involves such things as consolidating driveways to
retail and office centers and enlarging driveway radii so that it is easier to turn in and exit from these same locations. By increasing driveway
radii, cars do not have to slow down quite as much to turn into a facility as they would if the driveway radius were smaller.

MetroNational, developer of Memorial City Mall and other properties in Memorial City, has introduced a free shuttle service to ease transportation through the Memorial City area. The Memorial City Shuttle is designed to simplify travel for tenants of the surrounding office buildings, patients and visitors to Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital and Memorial City Mall or other local businesses and restaurants. It consists of three 15-passenger buses, each of which will travel a unique route- East, West & Healthcare
campus. Please see the link on the side for detailed maps of each.
The District has also joined with other West Houston organizations to
form a new umbrella organization to advocate for transportation improvements
on the west side. Many of the region’s larger transportation projects
are planned by the area’s regional planning organization, the
Houston-Galveston Area Council. The District and other west side
organizations believe that by working together they can help bring additional
attention
and, ultimately, more mobility to the west side.
